TamizhSelvi ( TamizhArasi )… exactly after three years we heard this name and met this lil hope of Blossom. Yes the girl with lot of thirst in education is back to us to continue the education. Three years back I wrote an article “Quest Ends In Blossom” about this girl. After few months of tat she was forced to discontinue ( she attained puberty , the so called turning point in a girls life ) by her aunty and uncle. Then she never turned up….we tried to convenience her aunt but nothing went positive. She continued to work in the FireWorks office as usual. Our center head always said tat..she is still so interested in learning…but her aunt and uncle not allowing.
Just few weeks back, other two school dropout girls of the same village “S.Sornavalli” & “K.Angala Easwari” turned to our center with their parents. They wanted their kid to continue the studies and the seeked our help to make it happen. So we convinced the girls to start learning in our center from the basics. Now both the girls are very regular to classes and they are grasping the subjects very fast & more than we expected. Now both the girls accepted to join school in the next academic year.
The pity things are …the reason for “Agala Easwari” to drop put from school was, she was told tat she is not reading well and she was constantly discouraged in one or other way. So she decided to not to go to school. The reason for “Sornavalli” to drop out from school was, she was afraid of English. She scored decent marks in all the other subjects except in English. So she decided not to go to school when she was in 7th std., Both the girls parents forced them lil bit to go to school and continue education… but not much.So these girls are working in the fireworks office and ears 1800/- INR per month.
Thanks to TN govt’s policy of no fails till 9th standard. We planned to put “Angala Easwari” in 8th standard and “Sornavalli” in 9th standard. Fortunately at this time , TamizhSelvi turned up one day along with her aunty to give us a surprise. Her aunty wanted TamizhSelvi to start learning again. We are very happy to take her back and promised her aunt that we will make her join school again. ( the girl who was never been to school after her 1st standard ). The good news is she is learning very fast now and as accepted earlier the local school HM accepted to give her a certificate tat she completed 5th standard in his school. Since she doesn’t have a birth certificate or other birth proofs, we decided to reduce her age lil bit and make her join in 6th standard or 7th standard next year.
The only challenge will be convincing her aunt and uncle for sending her to school, since she earns 1500 to 1800 INR per month. If we can pay tat amount to her guardians, we can easily get permission to put her in school. We are just working out for few volunteers to support for this cause. The next big challenge is to find few mentors to guide and encourage these girls to move on further. With great positive notes Blossom will meet the challenges and make things happen.
Really very happy to see three school drop out girls back to QUEST centers and now they got the confidence of joining back to school. We never wanted to call this as success….bcos lot to go. When they finish the 10th standard…we can say tat we have started our way to success. We at Blossom will take it as a challenge and will make it happen with the help of lot of positive souls around us. I wish , let QUEST be the right place to quench these girls quest on education ( Quality Education ).
Thanks a ton to Mr.Nagarajan ( Center Head) for his quest in educating these kids in the village. Without him nothing would have been possible. Hats off to his hard work along with Kavitha Nagarajan to bring up these kids. Happy to take this responsibility with lots of happiness. We promise to do our best to brighten the lives of these kids in the village and make it a model village.
note:- Blossom is a Social welfare Org., and QUEST is one of the project handled by Blossom. QUEST mainly works on the Quality Education for rural children. QEC – Quest Education Centers are the place where village students were given supplementary education at no cost.
We need Volunteers to mentor these three girls and other few students in our center. You can make it through online.
